Custom Services was started in 1980 by Bob and Dana Townsend. Originally, the core of his business was generated from new home construction, and Bob's primary job was air conditioner installation in these homes. Business was good, until the bubble burst in the mid 80s with the fall of the construction industry.
Bob chose to refocus the business on servicing the heating and air conditioning units he had been installing. This service provided credibility in the eyes of the homeowners and helped to boost Custom Service's reputation in the industry.
Both Bob and Dana pride their success on following Dr. W. Edwards Deming's philosophy of life and relationship of people management. It is this concept that the Townsends applied to Custom Services and continue to implement today.
The concept is based upon building a strong relationship and trust among employees. It is a part of the vision for Custom Services. The result has allowed Custom to provide quality service at a fair price and lets employees earn ownership of the company.
Bob Townsend's goal is to keep their position at the top of the heating and air conditioning business in Oklahoma. Custom Services was inducted into the 1999 Air Conditioning Contractors of America's (ACCA) Safety Masters Club. In recognition of their significant commitment to safety and employee safety programs. Only 78 contractors were selected nationwide for 1999, with only three from Oklahoma.
